Today Matt moved into a larger room with us and we made the decision to fly to Krabi the next day. We decided to take a tour of the canals of Bangkok via longtail boat. Bangkok is known as the Venice of the East, so it was something we couldn't miss. The Floating Market is the main atttraction, but apparently we got on in the wrong part of the city. We instead snaked through city canals for an hour. We passed by shacks and rickety old homes as we cruised along, just the 3 of us and our boat operator. We saw massive monitor lizards sunbathing and swimming in the water. An old man was making a living by selling loaves of bread to tourists like us at a popular catfish location. As we threw scraps of bread into the water, hundreds of catfish thrashed on top of each other trying to get the bread. Chris threw half the loaf in at once and there was a massive feeding frenzy. We didn't end up seeing a floating market of boats full of fresh produce and crafts, but we did come across an old woman in her boat selling cold beer.
That evening we hopped in a tuk tuk over to the tallest building in Bangkok. The 84th floor had an observation deck that gave great views of the city all lit up. We passed by a photo booth, but this booth didn't print photos, it engraved images onto a necklace trinket. 25min later we had our hands on some individual and group glamour shots. The observation deck rotated and above us was a wall of flashing lights. We took some great shots and finished the evening in the lounge over a cocktail. We picked up some pad thai with egg rolls mixed in off a street vendor on Ko San Road. It's something I'll have to try again, it's delicious!
