7-8 Bangkok Day 1
The bus arrived at Bangkok around 3am and I had to pick up my Vietnam Visa at the embassy, which didn't open until 8:30am. My flight to Laos was at 11:30am, so there wasn't much time. I didn't sleep well on the bus, which was cramped and I had the very back seat, causing me to be catapulted into the air every 10 seconds or so. Instead of getting a room for 4 hours, I sat out front a 7-11 next to the Vietnam embassy for 4 hours reading, at which point I relocated to Starbucks. I got some strange looks in the middle of the night as I spread my bag contents out front 7-11 and reorganized. 8:30am finally came, but as I approached the door, I noticed a note that was just posted on the door. The embassy was closed today in observance of a Buddhist holiday. Noooo!!! Man was I angry! I hopped on a motorbike taxi and got a room on Kao San Road and tried to figure out what to do for the day. I walked the 15 minutes to the National History Museum. After almost 4 hours of reading every single caption and note, I knew every bit of Thailand's history, as told throught the experiences of all the kings. Most of it came off as embellishing facts, but nevertheless was interesting. People who criticize a Thai king end up in jail for a long time, so I wasn't surprised. After that, a nice nap for 6 hours hit the spot, followed by a long internet session into the wee hours.
